Ivanov to use engineering skills to further develop Minnowtech’s core sonar technology to meet customer needs in aquaculture farms
September 24, 2019 – Minnowtech, LLC, an aquaculture technology company that provides an imaging platform to enable shrimp farmers to measure shrimp abundance to optimize feeding, today announced the hiring of Hristo “Itso” Ivanov, an experienced applied physicist and engineer, as Mechanical Engineer.
Ivanov, who earned a BS in Engineering Physics/Applied Physics at Towson University, is an applied physicist with significant experience in engineering and technical problem solving. Ivanov, who has conducted research with lasers using Dynamic Light Scattering technique, previously served as Technician with Samsung Electronics America and as Project Manager at Fison. With Minnowtech, Ivanov will use his technical skills to support accelerated research and development into the company’s core sonar technology.
“We’re very excited to welcome Itso to our growing Minnowtech team,” said Minnowtech Founder and CEO Suzan Shahrestani, PhD. “With Itso’s engineering skills and attention to our customers’ needs, we’re able to address head-on the challenge of helping shrimp farmers have better information regarding the status of their ponds. With our technology, we’re able to give shrimp farmers a clear understanding of their pond population, allowing them to maximize the efficiency of their efforts and help them meet rising global demand.”
Minnowtech, which launched in 2018, continues to gain momentum in its product development and customer outreach efforts. Last month, Minnowtech announced it has been invited to pitch at the Fish 2.0 Global Innovation Forum in Stanford, California, November 4-6, 2019.
As part of Fish 2.0’s venture competition program, Minnowtech has been selected to be among its “Fish 2.0 40,” representing the cohort of competition finalist startups that will make their pitches to the Fish 2.0 audience of global investors.
In addition, Minnowtech was recently awarded a $225,000 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The NSF grant, titled “SBIR Phase I: Sonar Arrays for Maximizing Aquaculture Yields,” will support Minnowtech’s product optimization and enable field trials through Summer 2020.
Minnowtech is an aquaculture technology company that provides a software imaging platform enabling shrimp farmers to estimate shrimp abundance with precision. Using Minnowtech’s data-based imaging tool, shrimp farmers optimize the health and growth of their hatcheries, enhancing harvest of market-size shrimp while minimizing risks to juvenile shrimp.
